"Another Land Developer"

This Parable is about talking God using and developing your gifts and talents.

This prophetic parable is taken out of Jeremiah (1:10). To “uproot and tear down, to destroy and over throw, to build and plant.”

One day as the Land Developer was driving by in the backwoods, he saw two pieces of land. Both had a lake and old building on it. The old buildings were falling apart, and not being used anymore. Both pieces of land were sitting side by side each other, almost identical.

The first piece of land, the land developer asked the owner, if you let me develop your land, I will tear down those old buildings and build new buildings and develop your land into something useful, beautiful and valuable. The land owner agreed to let the land developer develop his land.

The Land Developer then went over to the second land owner and said, if you let me develop your land, I will tear down those old buildings and build new buildings, and I will develop your land into something useful, beautiful and valuable.

The owner said "NO", he liked it looking “wild and in its natural state.” Anyway, if somebody was going too develop his land, he would.  He didn’t need a land developer “to help him.”

The land developer then went back to the first land owner and went about developing his land.  First he torn down all the old buildings. Then he had a road built back to the lake and had boat ramps built to the lake, so people could put their boats in the water and could fish and water ski in the lake. He then cleared the land of weeds, rocks, and dead trees, and planted new grass and trees on the land. Then he built some log cabins where people could stay in.

Within a few years business was booming, but people were always asking the land developer "where was the nearest gas station to buy gas at"?

He would tell them, “O, about 20miles away”.  So he thought , "why don’t I build a gas station here so people won’t have to drive 20 miles away".

After it was built, people were always asking him, "where is the nearest grocery store at to buy food like ice, soda, water, hot dogs, buns, potato salad and so forth"?

He would tell them, “O, about 20 miles away”. So he thought, "why don’t I build a grocery store here, so people won’t have to drive miles away".

So he built a grocery store on the land. Again people were always asking him, ‘where was the nearest restaurant at, and he would tell them, “O, about 20 miles away”.  So he thought, “why don’t I build a restaurant here, so people won’t have to drive 20 miles away"?

So he build a restaurant on the land. Soon, the news got around that he had developed the land, and people started coming from near and far and all around.  Business was booming so much, he had to turn people away, and send them to a hotel about 20 miles away.  So he thought, "why don’t I build a hotel here, where I don’t have to send the people to a hotel 20 miles away".

So he built a hotel on the land, for all the extra people. One day the land owner said to the land developer, “Ten years ago this land had only weeds, rocks, dead trees, and old buildings on it.  It was unused and unproductive. Now there are new buildings, boat ramps, cabins, a gas station, a grocery store, a restaurant and a hotel on it now.  You have made this land very productive, beautiful and valuable.  So many people can now enjoy and use this land.”

The second land owner had also developed his land, on his own. He had cleared a few small spaces where people could come and put up a put-tent at. And occasionally, a person would come by and camp there. But for the most part, his land was left unused and undeveloped, with only the old buildings, rocks, dead trees and weeds growing on it.

Now understand this Parable:

The Two Land Owners: the two land owners represent two kinds of Christians, one who is spiritual, the other who was carnal.

The Land:  The land represents your gifts and talents, your life and work as a Christian.

Land Developer:  the land developer is the Holy Spirit.

Old Building:  The old building represented things in your life that God wants to remove.

New Buildings: The new buildings represent working for God, your ministry, using your gifts and talents, new growths, new work for God.

People in Parable:  Christians and other people, who will enjoy and benefit from your ministry.

Godly Instruction: ‘Yea, know, some of you are like the second land owner. You are not using your gifts and talents for God. You have not let God remove the old buildings and things in your life. The old buildings and things in your life need to be removed, before new buildings can be built, your spiritual land had not been broken up or tilled. Your land had never been plowed or planted. There is only weeds and rocks on it. It is unworked and unproductive, growing nothing. Your land needs to be plowed, the rocks and weeds removed, so the land can be planted and built upon.’

‘The ground that lies unplowed grows only weeds and the Christian who will not plow and plant will not get a spiritual harvest. You need to tear down your old useless buildings, and build new buildings and plow and plant. Yea, I want to make your ‘spiritual land’ productive, so many people can enjoy and benefit from your land. I will take your undeveloped land, and make it useful, beautiful and valuable for the Kingdom of God’, says the Lord.
